HAIRraising - Salons go to all lengths for kids

Meet The Kids

Every child we care for has a story of unbelievable moxie and profound inspiration.

Emily

Age: 7

Looking at Emily today—an animated, outgoing 7-year-old—you’d never know that doctors didn’t expect her to survive. Born at 28 weeks, Emily suffered two brain hemorrhages while in the NICU and doctors feared she may never walk or talk. Now, Emily and her twin sister Sara celebrate their birthdays each year by visiting the staff in the NICU and participating in NSTAR’s Walk for Children’s Hospital Boston. She was told she might not ever walk…and now she walks for the hospital that saved her, giving back to help Children’s care for other kids who need it.

Sara

Age: 7

Sara can be described as quiet, shy, cautious….and most importantly, she is strong. When she was born at 28 weeks her lungs weren’t fully developed and she struggled to breathe. Children’s doctors placed her on a device that regulated her breathing and prevented her lungs from collapsing. Today, Sara and her twin sister, Emily, are active toddlers who now leave their parents winded, barely able to keep up.
